Seed Bank for Sustainability

We do not realize, but we just waste a great potential to make our coutry lush green and prosperous as it used to be. Don't waste those valuable seeds by dumping them by the hundreds and thousands at your household. Collect the seeds of native trees and plants that help both wildlife and humans alike. We need your help to make this initiative a success. Here's how you can help.

1. Collect all the seeds you get a home. It can be seeds of fruits, vegetables, plants and large trees. Teachers can also do this as a school project. Green teams in universities and in companies can also participate in this seed collection drive. All you need is to ask everyone to collect seeds they just dump. Refer them to this page for instructions. Take the lead and JUST DO IT!

2. Seperate the seeds accordingly. i.e. Fruits, Vegetables, Herbs, Trees etc. Wash the seeds to avoid spoiling and then dry them without exposing to sunlight.

3. Store the seeds in a cool, dark, dry place. Ideally in a refrigerator.

4. Call 0777771348 to hand it over to us without a delay. Alternately, you can plant them in suitable open spaces at your home, school, university or office if you can obtain necessary approvals.

Imagine if we collect them all and create plant nurseries or just throw them in to suitable arable bare lands when the rainy season comes. Even if 1% of them grow, that would be a great success. It will eventually spread on their own helping generate entire natural ecosystems.

Rainforest Protectors of Sri Lanka has secured many suitable lands for such an initiative. These include bare degraded Government land, State land in environmentally sensitive areas such as river buffer zones and landslide prone areas, private lands and estates and lands purchased through Rainforest Protectors Trust to permanently protect privately held forest lands and create ecologically important biodiversity corridors and forest buffer zones. All we need is seeds from you!!!
